I am a licensed CFSC, CRFSC and C.O.R.E. Courses instructor. I started teaching in 2009 and I am also an avid hunter and a competitive handgun shooter.
More about my experience: I started shooting rifle with my grandfather at the age of 7 and at the age of 9 I was shooting in rifle competitions in Norway. I continued to shoot in full bore rifle competitions until 1986. During this time I assisted in the training of new shooters as well as acting as range officer during practices and competitions. At age 14 I bought my first shotgun and soon after began hunting and continue to this day. At age 17 I did a mandatory year of service in the Norwegian Army where I was trained to use everything from a 9mm P-38 to 84mm Karl Gustav recoil-less rifle.
When I moved to Canada in 1986 I bought my first 30-30 lever action rifle for hunting in Manitoba. In 1988, I became involved in competition handgun shooting. Around 1990, after my move to Saskatchewan I began hunting with a black powder rifle to take advantage of the early season. During this time I continued to practice and compete with handguns. I again took up long distance rifle shooting to improve my hunting accuracy.
In 2004, after I moved to British Columbia I became a member of Chilliwack Fish and Game Association. At this time I became involved in handgun shooting, including membership in the competitive sport of IDPA where I use single/double action pistols and revolvers in all handgun calibers. Throughout this time I have continued to hunt with rifles and shotguns.
Years and types of hunting experience: I started hunting in Norway at age 14 for ptarmigan, ducks, geese, rabbits and fox in the mountains and on the islands using shotgun and .222 caliber rifle. After coming to Canada, in Manitoba I hunted for deer, moose and grouse. After my move to Saskatchewan I became involved in the early Black Powder hunting season for white tail, mule deer and antelope. I continued to hunt for game bird’s ducks, geese and grouse as well as moose hunts in northeast Saskatchewan. I moved to Alberta where I continued hunting for white tail and game birds. After my move to BC I again took up hunting for deer, black bear, elk and moose as well as grouse and continue to do so to this day.
Years and types of instructional experience: My instructional experience began in Norway where I assisted with juniors and recruits in proper handling and techniques of competitive rifle shooting. I also assisted in the yearly reclassification of big game hunters at my local club in Norway for nearly 5 years. After my move to Canada I took new shooters under my wing and taught them proper gun safety and hunting etiquette at every opportunity and continue to do so up to the present day. In a more formal capacity I was the Chilliwack Fish and Game Association’s holster course trainer and certifier when that course was offered. I became a CFSC and CRFSC Course instructor in 2009 and have been regularly teaching both of these courses throughout the following years. With the startup of IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) I became a Safety Officer responsible for training and guidance of all shooters to the sport. I also became a Safety Officer Instructor for training of new Safety Officers in the last few years. Previously I worked for Silvercore as an instructor for CFSC, CRFSC and CORE courses throughout the Lower Mainland. Most of my shooting today involves handguns and IDPA.
Because of my love of hunting, I enjoy teaching others the ethical way of hunting. From proper gun handling, accuracy in your shot, awareness of your surrounding environment, and the correct way to taking care of your game meat to insure there is minimal loss, so that others can continue to enjoy the sport of hunting for years to come.
